Given info : a force of magnitude of 12N is applied on a body on a table in the east direction. On the same body another force of 15 N is applied in the west direction.

To find : doest the body move ?,

If so, in which direction it would be ?

Solution : from Newton's law of motion, a body moves when net force applied on that body doesn't equal to zero. And direction of motion of body must be direction of net force applied on that body.

Now let's solve it.

Force applied F₁ = 12N in the east direction and F₂ = 15N in the west direction.

So, net force = 12N(east) + 15N (west)

= -12N (west) + 15N (west)

= (15 - 12)N (west)

= 3N (west)

Therefore net force applied on the body is 3N in the west direction.

So body moves and direction of it would be west
