A forest has a perimeter of 210 miles, but no information is given about the shape of the forest. Justify your answers to the following (in all parts of this problem, the perimeter is still 210 miles.) Show all calculations for your answers in your work. There will be 2 separate answers.

Answer:

as shown below

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that forest perimeter = 210 miles

There is no information about shape of the forest

case(1)

If we consider Forest is in a square shape, then the measurements of the forest will be like this

perimeter of forest  210 miles = 4(a) ( here a is side of the forest )

                                4(a) = 210 miles

                                  a =  52.5 miles

the area of the forest = a^{2}  =  (52.5)^{2} = 2,756.25 sq miles

case(2)

If we consider forest is in rectangle shape, then the measurements of forest will be like this

  perimeter of forest 210 miles = 2(l+b)

(here l, b are length and breadth of the forest respectively )

                                2(l+b) =210

                               (l+b) = 210 ÷ 2

                              l + b = 105

here the sum of the length and breadth = 105

there is no information and conditions on the measurements of forest so we can consider any two positive numbers that gives 105 by adding can taken as lengths and breath of forest

for example   (50, 55) (60, 45) ...etc.
