)A fox and an eagle lived at the top of a 6-meter-high cliff, at the foot of a cliff about 10 m away from

a point A on the ground. The fox descended from the cliff and went straight to point A. The eagle

jumps vertically to a height x meters and then flies in a straight line to point A, the distance traveled by

x = 30/11 = 2.727 m  or  6.5 m  A fox and an eagle lived at the top of a 6-meter-high cliff

Step-by-step explanation:

Distance Covered by Fox = 6 + 10  = 16 m

Eagle jumps vertically to a height x meters and then flies in a straight line to point A

if jump is also calculated in Distance of eagle

Distance covered by Eagle = x  + √10² + (6 + x)²

= x + √100 + 36 + x² + 12x

= x + √(x² + 12x + 136)

x + √(x² + 12x + 136) = 16

=> √(x² + 12x + 136)  = 16 - x

Squaring both sides

=> x² + 12x + 136 = 256 + x² - 32x

=> 44x = 120

=> x = 120/44

=> x = 30/11  m

if jump is not calculated in Distance of eagle

√(x² + 12x + 136) = 16

Squaring both sides

=> x² + 12x + 136 = 256

=>  x² + 12x -120 = 0

=> x ≈ 6.5 m
