Let the fraction be x/y.

ATQ,

x-1/y = 1/3

=> 3x-3 = y

=> 3x-y = 3 ......(i)

&

x/y+8 = 1/4

=> 4x = y+8

=> 4x-y = 8 ......(ii)

By elimination method,

eqn.(ii)-eqn.(i)

=> (4x-y)-(3x-y) = 8-3

=> 4x-y-3x+y = 5

=> x = 5

On putting the value of x in eqn.(ii), we get-

(ii)=> 4×5-y = 8

=> 20-y = 8

=> y = 20-8

=> y = 12

So, the required fraction is 5/12.
