Metri: A fraction becomes 5/8 when 3 is added to both numerator and denominator. If 1 is subtracted from the numerator and 1 is added to the denominator, then it becomes 1/6 Find the fraction.
MalikaShr: x + 3 / y + 3 = 5/8
MalikaShr: Then from cross multiplication an equation formed that is 8x -5y + 9
MalikaShr: Then from second statement x - 1/ y + 1 = 1/6
MalikaShr: Equation formed is 6x - y - 7
MalikaShr: Multiply eq 2 by 5
MalikaShr: By subtracting eq 1 from eq 2
MalikaShr: The value of x is 2 and the value of y is 5
MalikaShr: That is why the fraction is 2/5
