Answer:

let numerator be x

and denominator be y

let fraction be x/y.

in 1st case,

x+3/y+3 = 4/5

5(x+3) = 4(y+3)

5x + 15=4y +12

5x - 4y = -3 ............(1)

in 2nd case,

x+5/y+5 = 5/6

6(x+5) = 5(y+5)

6x + 30 = 5y +25

6x - 5y = -5 .............(2)

from (1) and (2)

by elimination method;

  (5x - 4y = -3) x 5

  (6x - 5y = -5) x 4

  25x - 20y = -15

24x - 20y =20                                                                                                                                  (-)   (+)         (+)__

 x = 5

put x=5 in 1st

5x - 4y = -3

5(5) -4y = -3

25 - 4y = -3

-4y = -3 -25

-4y = -28

y = -28/-4

y=7

so, x = 5

    y = 7
