let the fraction be x/y

A fraction becomes 5/8 when 3 is added to both numerator and denominator is

x+3/y+3=5/8 ....(eq1)

1 is subtracted from the numerator and and 1 is added to the numerator is

x-1/y+1=1/6 ......(eq2)

from both equation 1 and 2

8 (x+3)=5 (y+3)

8x+24=5y+15

8x-5y=15-24

8x-5y=-9....(eq3)

6 (x-1)= 1 (y+1)

6x-6= y+1

6x-y=6-1

6x-y=5......(eq4)

from 3 and 4

8x-5y=-9

6x-5y=5

- + -

---------------

2x=-14

x= 7

substitute x Value in eq 3

8x-5y=-9

8(7)-5y=-9

56-5y=-9

56+9=5y

65=5y

y=13

here is ur answer if wrong please suggest others
