EXPLANATION.

  • GIVEN

a fraction is such that the numerator is multiply

by = 3 and denominator is reduce by = 3

we get = 3/2

if the numerator is increased by = 8

denominator is double we get = 5/7

Find the fraction.

According to the question,

Let the fraction be = x/y

We get,

3x / y - 3 = 3/2 ......(1)

x + 8 / 2y = 5/7 .......(2)

From equation (1) and (2) we get,

=> 6x - 3y = -9 .....(1)

=> 7x - 10y = -56 .....(2)

From equation (1) and (2)

multiply equation (1) by 10

multiply equation (2) by 3

we get,

=> 60x - 30y = -90

=> 21x - 30y = -168

we get,

=> 39x = 78

=> x = 2

put the value of x = 2 in equation (1)

we get,

=> 6(2) - 3y = -9

=> 12 - 3y = -9

=> -3y = -21

=> y = 7

Therefore,

Fraction will be = x/y = 2/7
