Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

A fraction is such that the denominator is 5 more than the numerator . If denominator is increased by 2 the fraction become 1/2 .

To find:-

Find the original fraction ?

Solution:-

Let the numerator be X

Let the denominator be Y

Then the fraction be X/Y

Now , given that

Denominator is 5 more than its numerator

=> Denominator = Numerator+5

=> Y = X+5

Then the fraction = X/(X+5)

and

The denominator is increased by 2 the

fraction become 1/2

=> X/(X+5+2) = 1/2

=> X/(X+7) = 1/2

On applying cross multiplication then

=> 2X = X+7

=> 2X-X = 7

=> X = 7

Numerator = 7

Denominator Y = X+5

=> Y = 7+5

=> Y = 12

Denominator = 12

The fraction = X/Y = 7/12

Answer:-

The original fraction for the given problem is 7/12

Check:-

The fraction = 7/12

Denominator = 12

=> 7+5

Denominator= Numerator + 5

and

denominator is increased by 2 then it becomes 12+2 = 14

Then the fraction = 7/14= 1/2
