(x-5)/y=(4x+1)/y

Cut y from both side

x-5=4x+1

x-4x=1+5

-3x=6

X=-2

Put x=-2 in (x-5)/y

x-5=y

-2-5=y

Y=-7

Fraction is x/y=-2/-7=2/7

Answer:

\frac{2}{7}

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the numerator be x

Let the denominator be y

The numerator is five less than the denominator.

⇒ x = y-5  --1

Four times the numerator is one more than the denominator.

⇒4x =y+1 --2

Substitute the value of x from 1 in 2

⇒4(y-5) =y+1

⇒4y-20=y+1

⇒3y=21

⇒y=7

So, x = y-5 = 7-5 =2

Thus the fraction = \frac{x}{y} = \frac{2}{7}
