A frame of dimensions 8m by 5m is hung on a wall with dimensions 18 m by 12 m find the area of the wall not covered by the frame​

Therefore, the area of the wall not covered by the frame

=Area of wall-Area of frame

=l×b-l×b

=(18×12)-(8×5)

=216-40

=176 cm²

Dimensions of frame = 8m by 5m

Dimension of wall = 18 m by 12 m

Now we have to find out area of the wall not covered by the frame.

In the diagram ( refer attachment for diagram ) :-

  • ABCD is wall
  • EFGH is frame
  • shaded area with pencil is the remaining area which we have to find out.

Now :-

 \sf  \implies R.A = A_1 - A_2.....(1)

Where :-

  • R.M = remaining area
  • A_1 = area of wall
  • A_2= area of frame

Now first we will find out area of wall ( A_1 ) :-

=> Wall is in rectangular shape.

Area of rectangle = length × breadth

=> Area of wall = 18 m × 12 m

=>A_1 = 216 m²

Now , we will find out area of wall (A_2 ) :-

=> frame is also in rectangular shape.

Area of rectangle = length × breadth

=> Area of wall = 8m × 5 m

=>A_2= 40 m²

Now put the value of A_1 and A_2 in (1) to get answer.

\sf  \implies R.A =( 216 - 40) {m}^{2}

\sf  \implies R.A =176 \: {m}^{2}

So the area of remaining part is = 176 m²
