a framed picture 24 inches wide and 28 inches high is shown below. The picture will be hung on a hall where the distance from the floor to ceiling is 8 feet. The center of the picture must be 5 1/4 feet from the floor. Determine the distance from the ceiling to the top of the picture frame.

From the floor to the top of the picture is height above the floor to the center of the picture plus half the height of the picture: 5 feet 3 inches plus 14 inches = 5 feet 17 inches = 6 feet 5 inches (77 inches). 
Eight feet = 96 inches 
96-77 = 19 inches = 1 foot 7 inches
