A free jet of water with initial velocity of 40 m/s impinges on a series of curved vanes

moving with speed of 20 m/s. The direction of the jet from nozzle is at 20° with the

direction of motion of vanes. Assuming the outlet relative velocity is 95% of the relative

velocity at inlet. Compute (a) the angle made by tangent to the relative velocity at tips with

direction of motion of vanes, (b) power transmitted per unit weight of water and (c)

hydraulic efficiency of the system. Assume the absolute velocity of water at outlet is

normal to direction of motion of vane.
