Let u be the initial velocity, g be the acceleration due to gravity of the falling body .
Also , h be the height of the building and t be the time taken to reach the ground .
So ,
u = 0
t = 1 s
g = 9.8 m/s²
h = ?
Using the second equation of motion , we get
h = ut + ½gt²
=> h = 0*1 + ½*9.8*1²
=> h = (0+4.9)m
=> h = 4.9 m
Hence , The height of the building is 4.9 metres ...............................
