a freely suspended magnet faces North- South at rest,why?

this is because of earth's magnetic feild . the geographical north of earth is actually its magnetic South of thus it attracts the north of the magnet suspended. and so is the case with the other pole also .

This is because of the earths magnetic poles which attracts the magnets in both the poles
