A Fruit is best defined as ripened Ovary enclosing one or more seeds.

  • Plants are divided into four categories algae, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, gymnosperms and angiosperm.
  • Out of these, fruit formation can be seen only in angiosperms.
  • In angiosperms, the seed is covered with an ovary wall while seeds in gymnosperms are naked.
  • Examples of angiosperms are- potato, guava, tulip, rose etc.
  • Gymnosperms also lack flowers while angiosperms have flowers which is why known as flowering plants.
