Question- Calculate and select the fuse from given options for operating an electric iron of power 1 KW at a 220 V line 1A ,2A,3Aand 5A

Answer - The fuse to be used is 5A.

Fuse is a wire used in circuit board with characteristic low melting point and high resistivity. This is done to save the appliance from damage.

Given in question is the power of iron as 1kW which will be equal to 1000W. The voltage for operation of appliance is 220V.

Hence, the current it requires for operation will be calculated by the formula -

P = VI

Here, p represents power, v represents voltage and I is for current.

Current = P/V

I = 1000/220

I = 4.5 A.

Hence, if the current exceeds 4.5A, then applicance might damage and hence, fuse should be 5 A.

Other fuse wires will break the circuit at 1A, 2A and 3A, at which appliance won't work. Hence, they should not be used.
