Perimeter of garden = 2(l+b)
= 2(150+80)
= 460 m
Total area of road = 4(460)
= 1840 sq.m
Cost for paving the road = 120× 1840
= RS 220800

The cost of paving the road is Rs.38080.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A garden 150 m long and 80 m wide has a road 4 m wide all around on the outside.

To find : The cost of paving the road at the rate of Rs.120 per square meter?

Solution :

Length of the inner rectangle L= 150 m

Breadth of the inner rectangle B= 80 m

Since the road which is of uniform width of the outside path is 4 meter,

So, the length of the outer rectangle = 150+4+4= 158 m

and the breadth of the inner rectangle = 80+4+4= 88 m

The area of the inner rectangle is

A_i= 150\times 80\\A_i= 12000\ m^2

The area of the outer rectangle is

A_o= 158\times 88\\A_o= 13904\ m^2

Area of the road = Area of Outer rectangle - Area of inner rectangle

i.e. A= 13904 - 12000

A= 1904 m^2

Cost of paving the road = Rs 120 per m²

The total cost of paving the road is given by

C= 1904\times 120

C= Rs.38080

Therefore, the cost of paving the road is Rs.38080.
