A garden is 90 m long and 75 m broad. Two cross paths each 5 m wide are constructed at right angle through the Centre of the field, such that each path is parallel to one of the sides of the rectangle. Find the total area used as path.

Given : Length of garden = 90m

           Breadth of garden = 75 m

           width of path = 5m

            area of path =?

Solution : Path is constructed at centre of garden and is parellal to one

               of the sides of rectangle garden.

∴ size of the two paths = 90m x 5m and 75m x 5m

since the roads cross each other, 5m x 5m to be deducted from the area

Area of cross roads  = 90x5 + 75x5 - 5x5

                                  = 450 + 375-25

                                  = 800 m²
