Answer:

\huge\red{\boxed{\sf AnSwER}}

let

W be the width of the pathway, x>0

l = 16 m the length of the garden

M = 12 m the width of the garden

the area of the garden A = \huge\green{\boxed{\sf l×M}}

the total area of the garden together with the pathway is (l + 2w)(M+ 2W)

(l + 2w)(M + 2w) = 285m²

(16 + 2w)(12 + 2w) = 285m²

solving the equation we get

w= 1.5 m

Hence the width of the pathway will be \huge\orange{\boxed{\sf 1.5m}}
