No matter which value we take for equal columns and rows, the number of rows and columns is going to repeat. If we use 4 columns, 4 rows. 7columns, 7 rows, etc. That means, the number of plants will be the product of the rows and columns.

SO, The number of plants = COlumns x ROws,

But columns = rows, so

The value is going to be x².

Now, the value of x² must be least more than 140

12² is 144, which means, the gardener is going to require 4 more plants. So in order to plant the plants in a 12 in a row and 12 in a column fashion.

The value we get is 4.
