first, we need to find a perfect square number which is above and nearest to 1400 by using long division method that would be 38² which is equal to 1444.

Here, No. of plants = 1400.
Since the remainder is 20
therefore, 38² > 1400
Hence, the number to be subtracted. if the number is less than 1400 then we need to add.

= 38² - 1400
= 1444 - 1400
= 44
hence, the gardener required 44 more plants.
