A gardener wishes to arrange his 1746 saplings in the form of a solid square so that the number of slapping on each row and column are same doing so he realises he is running short of 18 slappings how many slappings are there in each row?

Here, the gardener wishes to arrange saplings in a square field.  
Also, the number of saplings along each row and column is same. 

This means that, if there are n saplings in each row, then there would also be n saplings in each column. 

Overall, Total Number of saplings would be n^2

Here, the gardener has 1746 saplings. He requires 18 more saplings to complete the whole square field. 


So, He would have actually required 1746+18 = 1764 saplings 

Since, we know that total number of saplings would be a perfect square, we have : 

n^2 = 1764 \\ \\ \implies n=\sqrt{1764} \\ \\ \implies \boxed{\textbf{n=42}}


This means that, There would be 42 saplings in each row.
