Answer:

The food will be last for 27 days now.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A garrison of 900 men had provisions for 50 days

To Find : After 8 days ,a reinforcement of 500 men arrived . For how many days will the food last now?

Solution:

A garrison of 900 men had provisions for 50 days

After 8 days food left for 900 men for 42 days

After 8 days ,a reinforcement of 500 men arrived

No. of men will be increased so, food will be consumed early

I.e. More men less days

So, it is an inverse relation

So, Total no. of men after 8 days = 900+500=1400

So, 1400:900=42:x

\frac{1400}{900}=\frac{42}{x}

x=\frac{42 \times 900}{1400}

x=27

Hence the food will be last for 27 days now.
