Given:

Expansion of gas = 0.5L

Pressure = 1 atm

To Find:

Work done in Joule and Calorie

Solution:

Using the formula of work-

Work = P × change in the volume

Substituting the values

= −1 × 0.5

= − 0.5l

Calculating in Joules

= −0.5 × 101.328

= −50.664 J

Calculating in Cal

0.5litre − atm

= −0.5×24.20

= −12.10cal

Answer: The work done in Joules in - 50.664J and in calorie is - 12.10cal.
