When concentrated sulphuric acid is mixed with sodium chloride, it results in the formation of sodium bisulphate and the HCL gas.

The moist blue litmus turns red because HCL gas is acidic in nature.

NaCl+ H2SO4-> NaHSO4 + HCL

NaCl +H2S04->Na2SO4 +2HCL

In the first reaction, acidic salt is obtained while in the second reaction, neutral salt is obtained.

Answer :

moist blue turns red due to the gas evolved being acidic in nature

Explanation:

When concentrated sulphuric acid is mixed with sodium chloride , sodium sulphate and HCl gas .

The following reaction takes place:

NaCl+H2SO4————->2HCl + Na2So4

The moist litmus turns red due to the evolved HCl gas been acidic in nature
