Effective molecular weight:

total weight / totalno. of moles= x1 M1 + x2 M2

where,

x1 = mole fraction of c2h4

M1 = mol. weight of c2h4 = 28g

x2 = mol. fraction of c2h6

M2 = mol.weight of c2h6 = 30g

As

given, a gaseous mixture has 1 mole each of c2h4 and c2h6...

x1= 1/2

x2 = 1/2

Now, Effective molecular weight is

=1/2 (28) + 1/2(30)

= 29g

Hence, the average molecular weight of given mixture is 29g..
