A gaseous mixture of CO2 & O2 contained in a 10L flask at 298K exerted a pressure of 6.0atm. If the quantity of CO2 is 0.40 mole, find out the partial pressure of each gas.​

Answer:

PV = nRT

ntotal =  \frac{pv}{rt}

ntotal =  \frac{6 \times 10}{0.082 \times 298}  \\ ntotal = 2.4

moles of co2(given)= 0.40

.*.moles of 02 = ntotal - moles of co2

=2.4 - 0.4 =2

P.p of O2=Pt × Xo2 (Pt =total pressure Xo2= mole fraction of o2)

P.p of O2 = n (o2)/ ntotal × P (t)

= 2/2.4 × 6=5atm

Pp of co2 = 6 - 5 =1 atm
