Given info : a gaseous reaction 2A + B => 2C shows a decrease in pressure from 120 mm to 100 mm in 10 min.

To find : the rate of appearance of C is...

solution : given reaction is...

2A + B ⇒ 2C

at t = 0. a b 0

at t = t₀ a - 2p b - p 2p

now given, a + b = 120mm ...(1)

(a - 2p + b - p + 2p) = 100 mm

⇒a + b - p = 120 mm

from equation (1),

⇒120 mm - p = 100 mm

⇒p = 20 mm

now the rate of appearance of C = pressure of c/time

= 2p/t

= 2 × 20 mm/10 min

= 4 mm/min

Therefore the rate of appearance of C is 4mm/min.
