The initial amount is Rs. 40,000.

Given,

A gave 60% of the amount he had to B

B spent 30% of the amount received on day 1

B spent  40% of the remaining amount on day 2

B is left with Rs. 10080

To Find,

The amount A initially had =?

Solution,

Let the amount A has initially be x

A gave 60% of the amount he had to B. So,

Total amount B received = 60% of x

Total amount B received = 60x / 100

B then spent 30% of that on day 1 = 30% of (60x / 100)

B then spent 30% of that on day 1 =  (30/100)*(60x / 100)

B then spent 30% of that on day 1 =  18x / 100

The amount left = 60x / 100 - 18x / 100

The amount left = 42x / 100

B spent  40% of the remaining amount on day 2 = 40% of (42x / 100)

Money spent on day 2 by B = (40/100)*(42x / 100)

Money spent on day 2 by B = 168x / 1000

Money left = 42x / 100 - 168x/1000

Money left = (420x - 168x)/1000 = 252x /1000

B is left with Rs. 10080 = 252x /1000

x = (10080*1000) / 252

x = 40 * 1000

x = Rs. 40000

Hence, the amount A had initially was Rs. 40,000.
