m1 = 25 kg

v1 = 10 m/s

m2 = 10 kg

v2 = final velocity

= m1v1 + m2v2

25×10 + 10×0 = 25×v +10×v

= 250 + 0 = 25v + 10v

= 250 = 35 v

v = 250/35

v = 7.14285714286 m/s

(hope it helps ☺️ btw hi army, i am not sure about the answer bcz i am in grade 7

Given data : A girl of mass 25 kg running with a velocity of 10 m/s jumps on a stationary cart of mass 10 kg, so that they start moving together with a common velocity.

To find : The common velocity of the system ?

Solution :

⟹ Mass of the girl, m = 25 kg

⟹ Mass of the cart, m' = 10 kg

⟹ initial velocity of the girl, u = 10 m/s

⟹ initial velocity of the cart, u' = 0

⟹ final velocity of girl and cart (system) = v

Now, by law of conservation of momentum

⟹ m * u + m' * u' = (m + m') * v

⟹ 25 * 10 + 10 * 0 = (25 + 10) * v

⟹ 250 = 35 * v

⟹ 35 * v = 250

⟹ v = 250/35

⟹ v = 50/7

⟹ v = 7.1428 m/s (approx)

Answer : The common velocity of the ssyste is 7.1428 m/s.
