mass 300 kg on to the bank, with a horizontal velocity

To find:-

v₂ = boat's velocity after the girl jumping off the boat

How to find:-

conservation of momentum

m₁v₁ + m₂v₂ = 0

0 is because no initial velocity is applied

50*3 + 300*v₂=0

i.e v₂ = -150/300 = -0.5 m/s

So it is moving in the backward direction.

⇒ The velocity (v₂) will be 0.5 m/s in the backward direction.
