Hello Dear,

◆ Answers -

(a) Bromine water test is used to distinguish between saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons.

  • Saturated hydrocarbon + Br2 water --> No reaction
  • Unsaturated hydrocarbon + Br2 water --> Decolorization

(b) When ethanol is burnt in air, carbon dioxide and water are formed.

C2H5OH + 3.5O2 --> 2CO2 + 3H2O

Products formed -

  • Carbon dioxide
  • Water

Energies involved -

  • Heat energy
  • Light energy

(c) In a reaction of methane and chlorine, H is displaced by Cl. Hence, it is called substitution reaction.

CH4 + Cl2 --> CH3Cl + HCl

Thanks dear...
