a) Give reasons for the following -
i) Inert gases have zero valency
ii) Hydrogen chloride can be termed as polar - covalent compound.​

Answer:

i) As there are no free electrons in the valence shell as well as the elements are already in a stable state , so the valency of the noble gases is zero.

ii) This is because the difference between electronegativities of H and Cl is high electronegativity of Cl is much higher than that electronegativity of H so a unidirectional pull towards Cl will be created leading to polarity.
