Let the number be a
Number after first increase = a + 20a/100
= 120a/100
= 6a/5
Number after second increase = 6a/5+(15/100)(6a/5)
= 6a/5 + 90a/500
= 6a/5 + 9a/50
= 69a/50
Total increase = 69a/50 - a
= 19a/50
Percentage of increase = ( 19a/50) × 100 / a
= 19 × 100 / 50
= 19 × 2
= 38 %
Number after first increase = a + 20a/100
= 120a/100
= 6a/5
Number after second increase = 6a/5+(15/100)(6a/5)
= 6a/5 + 90a/500
= 6a/5 + 9a/50
= 69a/50
Total increase = 69a/50 - a
= 19a/50
Percentage of increase = ( 19a/50) × 100 / a
= 19 × 100 / 50
= 19 × 2
= 38 %
