Actually, ng = 3/5 and nw = 4/5.

Refractive Index of a medium = Speed of light in vacuum/Speed of light in the medium

=>Speed of light in the medium = Speed of light in vacuum / Refractive Index of a medium

Speed of Light in Vacuum = 3 x 108 m/s

Speed of light in glass = 3 x 108 / (3/5) =5 x 3 x 108 / 3 =5 x 108 m/s

Speed of light in water =3 x 108 / (4/5) =5 x 3 x 108 / 4 =3.75 x 108 m/s

Actually this is impossible,as speed of light in vaccum is maximum

I think in your question, refractive index of glass is 3/2 and that of water 4/3 [Then answer will change accordingly]

Answer:

Correct option is C)

RI=

apparent depth

real depth

Substituting,

3

4

=

apparentdepth

12

Therefore, apparent depth=

4

12×3

=9

The height by which it appears to be raised is 12−9=3cm
