(a) Silk cloth and Rubber balloon acquire negative charge.

(b) Glass rod and Woollen cloth acquire positive charge.

Explanation:

  • When glass rod is rubbed with a silk cloth, the rod losses some electrons to silk cloth. This makes glass rod positive (due to loss of electrons) and silk cloth negative (due to gain of electrons).
  • When inflated rubber balloon is rubbed with a woollen cloth, the rubber balloon gains some electrons from woollen cloth. Now, inflated rubber balloon has more electrons compared to woollen cloth. This makes rubber balloon negatively charged and woollen cloth positively charged.
  • Acquisition of positive or negative charge depends on the conductivity of the objects in friction.
