Given:
A glass rod rubs against a silk cloth and the charge goes on the glass rod.
To find:
What happens if this glass rod is brought near the hanging glass rod?
Solution:
- When the first glass rod is rubbed against the silk cloth there is development of static electrical charges on the glass rod due to interaction with the silk cloth.
- However, second glass rod which is hanging is neutral (neither positive nor negative), because it did not experience any interaction.
- Now, when the first glass rod is brought near second glass rod, we will observe that the two glass rods attract each other.
But why attraction?
- Whenever a charged object is brought near an uncharged object there will always be an attraction between the objects.
- We won't observe repulsion because repulsion requires two similar charges near each other.
Hope It Helps.
