A glass tube 1.5m long and open atboth ends is immersed vertically in awater tank completely. A tuning fork of660Hz vibrated and kept at the upperend of the tube and the tube is
gradually rised out of water. The total
number of resonances heard before thetube comes out of the water is (Velocity os sound in air is 330m/s)

The total number of resonances heard before the tube comes out of the the water is 6.

Explanation:

We are given that:

  • Length of glass tube = 1.5 m
  • Tuning fork frequency = 660 Hz
  • Velocity of sound = 330 m/s

Solution:

f = V / 4 L

f = ( 2 m - 1 ) v / 4 L

660 = [ ( 2 m - 1 ) / 4 x 660

N = 6

The total number of resonances heard before the tube comes out of the the water is 6.
