Given :- A goldsmith sells gold at Rs 3,500 per gm and diamond at Rs 1,000 per gm. He sold a particular diamond ring made of gold weighing 5 gm for Rs. 13, 500.

Solution :-

Let weight of diamond in the ring is x gm .

so,

→ weight of gold = (5 - x) gm .

then,

→ Total cost = Rs.13500

→ 3500 * (5 - x) + 1000 * x = 13500

→ 17500 - 3500x + 1000x = 13500

→ 2500x = 17500 - 13500

→ 2500x = 4000

→ x = (4000/2500)

→ x = (8/5)

therefore,

→ 5x = 5 * (8/5) = 8 gm (Ans.)
