A golfer is standing 4.9m above the fairway. The golfer hits the ball horizontally with a velocity of 20m/s. Gravity = 9.8 m/s2 Find: i) How long will it take to land on the fairway? ii) How far will the golf ball travel?

In vertical direction

u = 0 , s = 4.9 m

s = ut +  \frac{1}{2} g {t}^{2}  \\  \\ 4.9 = 0(t) +  \frac{1}{2}  \times 9.8 \times  {t}^{2}  \\  \\  {t}^{2}  = 1 \\ t = 1 \: s

So ball will take 1s to fall in fairway .

In horizontal directional

Velocity is fix = 20 m/s

So distance = velocity × time

= 20 × 1

= 20 m
