A good summary consists of the following qualities:

- Comprehensive

The definition of comprehensive means to "completely cover". This is important in a summary. You need to look at every part of the material. To cover all of it and wrap it up into a summary.

- Concise

Concise means to briefly include all the information. A summary means to finish it off, you would need all the information in there.

- Coherent

Coherent meaning to order your summary in a logical and nice fashion. Put your information together nicely and not jumbled up randomly throughout the summary.

- Independent

Independent means to not be dependent on in this case other information. In your summary, it would make for a good summary if you resaid the material in other words. To give it a different perspective at the end.

All of these are essential in a summary, to keep it complete and ordered and fresh information to finish off the base material.
