Answer:

Maximum marks is 400 and pass % is 37.5%

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the maximum marks be x

A got 36% of the maximum marks

So, A got marks = 0.36x

B got 42% marks

B got marks = 0.42x

A failed by 6 marks and B got 18 above pass marks

So, 0.36x+6=0.42 x -18

24=0.06x

\frac{24}{0.06}=x

400=x

So, passing marks = 0.36x+6=0.36(400)+6=150

Pass% = \frac{150}{400} \times 100= 37.5\%

Hence maximum marks is 400 and pass % is 37.5%
