A grand father is ten times older than his grand daughter. He is also 54 years older than her. Find their present ages

let the age of the child be x and of the grandfather be 10x
then 10x-x = 54 (difference between their ages is 54yrs)
9x =54
x = 6
therefore age of the child (x) = 6yrs and of the grandfather (10x) = 60yrs
