A grassy path is 80m × 60 m. Two cross paths each 4 m wide are constructed at right angles through the centre of the field, such that each path is parallel to one of the sides of the rectangle. Find the total area used as path.

If two cross roads each of width 'w' units , run at right angles through the centre of rectangular path of length 'l' units and breadth 'b' units , then

the area of total path =(width of path)(length of the park + breadth of the park -width of path)

=w(l+b-w)

Using this formula

From given data

l=80m

b=60m

w=4m

Area of the total path=w(l+b-w)

=4(80+60-4)

=4×136

=544 square meters
