Given :  a gravel company sells gravel by the cubic yard and charges a flat delivery fee. The table shows the total cost, C, based on the amount of gravel, in cubic yards G.

To find : What is the flat delivery fee (with 0 cubic yards of gravel),

Solution:

Let say Cost per cubic yard  =   m

flat delivery fee  = f

G = amount of gravel, in cubic yards

C=  Cost

C   = mG  + f

124 = 2m + f

220 = 5m + f

284  = 7m + f

316 = 8m + f

5m + f + 2m + f   -  (7m + f)

=> f = 220 + 124 - 284  =   60

  m =  32

flat delivery fee (with 0 cubic yards of gravel), = 60$
