A green layer is gradually formed on a copper plate left exposed to air for a week in bathroom . What could this green substance be ?

this green substance is corrosion which formed by the action of air and moisture on copper's surface.It is basic copper carbonate (CuCO3). Hope this helps!

Explanation:

Copper is a reactive metal and show a good rate of corrosion on its surface. Corrosion is a of oxidation process of metal surface in the combination of air (oxygen) and moisture (water content).  

Hence, green layer is developed on surface of a copper plate when it is left in the bathroom and exposed to air for a week is due to corrosion of copper metal that forms green color copper oxide and copper carbonate.
