a grocer bought sugar worth rupees 5000 is old one half of it at a gain of 10% at what percent must the remaining sugar be sold to have a gain of 15% on the whole??

Since he sold 1/2 of the sugar, 5000 / 2 = 2500     he sold 2500rupees worth of sugar.

He sold it at a gain of 10%, so 2500 x 110% = 2750.

To have a gain of 15% on the whole, he has to get   5000 x 115% = 5750rupees back.

Therefore, He needs to get   5750 - 2750 = 3000 rupees back on the remaining 2500rupees worth of sugar.

3000 / 2500 = 1.2

                      = 120%

The answer is 120% or 20% gain.
