Given :- A group is analyzing quality control problems. Suppose that the probability of a defective shape is 0.03 and the probability of a defective paint job is 0.06. What is the probability of a non-defective item? (Note: Assume that the two events are mutually independent)

Solution :-

given that,

→ probability of defective shape = 0.03

→ probability of defective paint = 0.06

we have to find the prob of non defective item, that means both the shape as well as paint should be non defective.

So,

→ probability of non defective shape = 1 - 0.03 = 0.97

→ probability of non defective paint = 1 - 0.06 = 0.94

Therefore, probability of non defective item will be the product of both.

Hence,

probability of a non defective item = 0.97 * 0.94= 0.9118 (Ans.)
