A group of girls and boys are made to stand in rows. If 4 students are extra in a row,their would be two rows less. If 4 students are less in a rows ,there would be 4 more rows find the no. Of students in the class.

The total number of students in class is 96.

Let the number of rows be = x

Let the number of students in a row be = y

Therefore,  

Number of students in class =  Number of students in a row × number of rows   = xy

Now, as per the question,

= (y+4)(x-2)= xy

= xy-2y+4x-8 =xy

= 4x-2y =8

= 2x-y = 4 --- eq 1

Another equation -  

= (y-4)(x+4)= xy

= xy+4y-4x-16 = xy

= -x+y = 4 --- eq 2

On solving equation 1 and 2, we will get -  

x = 8 and y = 12

Thus, the number of students in class = xy  

= 12 × 8

= 96.
